Virginia Morell

Virginia Morell is the author of the New York Times' Bestseller, Animal Wise: How We Know Animals Think and Feel. She also wrote Ancestral Passions: The Leakey Family and the Quest for Humankind's Beginnings (a New York Times' "Notable Book of the Year" in 1995), Blue Nile (a San Francisco Chronicle's "Best Travel Book of 2001), and co-authored Wildlife Wars(a Washington Post "Best Book" of 2001) with Dr. Richard Leakey. She is a contributor to National Geographic, and has written more than 35 articles for that magazine. She's also a contributing correspondent for Science, and writes about animal behavior, conservation, evolution, and environmental issues for both publications. Her articles have also appeared in The New York Times' Magazine, Smithsonian, Lapham's Quarterly, Discover, Audubon, National Wildlife, Conde Nast Traveler and Outside. She and her husband have lived in Ashland since 1988. She's traveled the world for her reporting, joining scientists on expeditions in the Amazon, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Peru, Venezuela, Costa Rica, and China.
